Projects

Work in progress, and how it gets started.

Projects here are proposed by members, staffed by whoever shows up, and published openly whatever the result.

Projects looking for collaborators

Teams are forming.

Projects are listed here with the skills they need once a team is in place. If you have an idea, this is a good moment to propose it and shape what the lab works on.

The lifecycle

From an idea to a published result.

Step 01

Proposal

Anyone writes up an idea: what it is, who it helps, what it needs. It is posted openly for the community to read.

Step 02

Team

Members put their hands up. A project needs at least two people willing to own parts of it before it starts.

Step 03

Work

Code and notes live in the open from day one, in the GitHub organisation. Progress is reported to the community, not to a manager.

Step 04

Release

Paper, code, data and models go out together, every contributor named. Work that did not pan out is written up too.

What a project can expect from us

  • A place to work in the open. A repository in the GitHub organisation, and a channel for the team.
  • Help finding collaborators. Proposals are circulated to the whole community, not quietly shelved.
  • Compute, when we can. We apply to research credit programmes and share what we get. It is limited, and we say so up front.
  • Review before release. Another member reads the work before it goes out under the lab's name.

What we ask in return

  • Work that can be published openly, under a licence that lets others build on it.
  • Credit for everyone who contributed, including the people who did the unglamorous parts.
  • Honesty about what did not work. Negative results are results.
